The conservative-authoritarian mindset, and probably most liberals as well, worries about incentivizing laziness in people, and they’re right. But what if you said to the individual:
“We are going to give you a middle class income while you learn at least one trade or profession that you yourself have chosen and also study the proverbs of the world’s major Wisdom traditions in order to help you better understand yourself and others, and then we will continue paying you this on top of whatever you can make from employment afterward. If you don’t participate in this personal/cultural Wisdom enhancement program you will be paid half of what those that do participate receive, unless or until you do participate.”
